This is our first trip for a year because unusually we did not have a spring visit. So very much looking forward to seeing the villa and the island again. We had booked to fly into Larnaca with British Airways which is also unusual. We normally fly into Ercan airport in Lefkosa using either Pegasus Airways or Turkish Airlines. We tend to pick the flight based on price and timings. Both Ercan and Larnaca are very nice, modern airports. Ercan is only 30 minutes from our villa, Larnaca is about 75 minutes. On the other hand, flights into Larnaca are direct and flights into Ercan involve a landing in Turkey. It's swings and roundabouts by the time you add flights and transfers together. The journey to Heathrow from Folkestone was awful. Torrenting with rain, like a monsoon and so many accidents along the way. At one point the M20 was closed and we had to head off into the hinterland of Kent. We set off at 645 and it was 950 when we got to Purple Parking at Heathrow, a journey of 100 miles nearly all motorway. They rushed us through bagdrop at Terminal 5 and we made the flight. The flight was uneventful and reasonably smooth. We got through the formalities of landing really quickly. We landed at 7pm Cyprus time and we were outside on the pavement by 730. As soon as we stepped outside we felt the heat! YAY! Our hire car firm, Gunray, had sent a transfer for us. They use really nice minivans, very plush and comfortable. They will deliver the car to the villa tomorrow morning and we do the same in reverse when we go home. It's a good start to the holiday. We settled back and let the driver take the strain as we headed north through Lefkosa (Nicosia). A brief pause at the border for passport inspection and we entered the Turkish sector and far more familiar ground. Arrived at the house at around 840 and found it looking as fab as ever. There is always a slight anxiety after a long gap that something will have gone wrong or taken wear, but Marion had been in and done her usual amazing setup job. It was sooooo hot though. 9pm and still 30C. We unpacked and I put the pool and terrace lights on and we stripped off and jumped right in! One of the wonderful benefits of being so completely private and "un-overlooked" is that we can occasionally do this LOL. The girls would be horrified!! The water was incredibly warm and it was utter bliss to wallow under the moon and just de-stress from the day's travelling. Then it was time for a nice cold glass of wine on the terrace, a beer for Bob and a facetime chat with the girls back in rainy London. Technology is amazing. Here we are in the Eastern Med. enjoying a nightcap talking to them and watching them eat salmon flatbreads for dinner!!!! It's science fiction come to life really. We have a pretty good broadband connection here which really helps. So, tomorrow, we will unpack our personal things from the cupboards. There aren't many but just a few items we don't leave out when we are not here. We need to do a mini shop at the supermarket to stock up with a few extras. Marion's pack is pretty good. Then a quiet chillaxing day. We have some jobs to do while we are here but they can wait a couple of days. The forecast tomorrow is sunny 31C. |
