It's highly popular with the Brits and so this week we decided to see what all the fuss is about: Sunday lunch at the Acmenya restaurant in Alsancak. About 5 minutes drive from the villa. To find the restaurant, drive down the hill and turn left. Turn left at the statue of the golden lady, signed Alsancak. Take the first left again just before the Corner Bar. Acmenya is about 300m ahead on the right. There is a bakery and coffee shop and then the restaurant is next door. We were warmly welcomed at the door by the owner who explained that the three course Sunday lunch was 25 ytl including unlimited coffee, tea and brandy at the end. That's amazing value: just about a fiver. There were three choices of first course: lentil soup, prawn cocktail and chicken liver pate. I had the soup - fantastic. Bob had the prawn cocktail. Absolutely loads of prawns but a bit too much rose marie sauce for our liking. For mains you could have chicken, beef or pork roasts with all the trimmings. Or a mixture of meats which is what we had. Meat portions were very generous and came with roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, Yorkshire puds, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and gravy. Couldn't really fault it. Very nice. For dessert you help yourself from a large dessert cabinet with possibly twelve desserts inside. You can tell they have a patisserie next door. There was also ice cream - about 5 flavours. I had black forest gateau with sour cherry ice cream and it was really yummy. Bob had eclairs with pistachio and cherry ice cream We could have just kept going back but we were totally stuffed. Then we rounded off with coffee and the ubiquitous brandys. Again, as much as you like and stay as long as you like. Honestly top value all round. There are lovely garden areas outside and - attractively to families - several fantastic children's playgrounds. Really nice equipment. Fantastic if you are eating out with little ones. There was a very heavy shower while we ate and by the time we got home there was a lovely double rainbow. |
