Another stunningly hot and sunny day in the low 30Cs. Stuart and Fi hit the poolside pretty early after breakfast. Bob and I attended to a few jobs till lunchtime. Firstly, Marion came up for a visit and an update. We had brought out a load of food goodies for her: sausage skins and packs of seasoning; a new kindle; etc. But we had house things to talk about and it was great to catch up after a year of only emailing. Then, within minutes of her departure our new prospective gardener came up for a visit and a walk around. He's coming back tomorrow to "detop" three trees and trim off several feet off hedges and other shrubs. Things grow like crazy here. It is a constant balancing act between life and death and then between life and overgrowth and then height for privacy and height out of control blocking sea views etc. Anyway the chap who comes highly recommended is coming back at 0830 tomorrow with his pal to work all day hacking back hedges and trees. Then we will talk about regular gardening. Bob repaired another toilet today that was leaking due to a faulty ballcock. We spent the afternoon around and in the pool. So very hot..... from about 3pm we were all asleep around the pool. I woke up at 5 and we went in for showers and then met up again on the terrace at 630 for g&ts and to watch the sundown. We had a table reserved at our local favourite restaurant Tervatuloa for 715. This is always our first and generally our last stop on any visit. Brilliant value. Super people. Family run. We used to know it when father was in charge but he passed away about 3 years ago. Now daughter is in charge and she has really transformed the place whilst retaining all that was lovely about it. So, dinner: 15 meze plates, hot and cold to start, then the entrée of choice. I had lamb chops as usual (5 chops wonderfully cooked), Bob had Kleftiko, Fi had lamb shish, Stuart had roof tile meat stew(lamb stuew cooked in a clay tile pot). Then fruit and baklava, coffee and brandy. The whole lot was £9 each including on top of what I've said, a bottle of wine, a g&t, a large beer and a bottle of mineral water. Honestly, incredible value and eaten delightfully in a lovely garden. We will undoubtedly be back several time over this stay. Love Tervetuloa. Back to the house and Bob streamed the England/ Wales rubgy match to our tv. I sat on the terrace and wrote this under the massive moon. Tomorrow night is the major eclipse so will have to set an alarm to see that. It is in the early hours of the morning here at its height. |
