Well.... the summer has to start to transition into autumn sometime. And it started last night with a cracking thunder storm with huge lightning. Very exciting to watch. Still very warm though, probably 29-30C. Today was patchy sun and cloud, very very windy but also very warm. It will be like this for a few days apparently and then back to sunshine but temperatures settling in the upper 20s for some weeks. That's Cypriot autumn... So, tonight we went to one of the concerts at Bellapais Abbey with our neighbours, Alan and Lesley. The Abbey and its ruins are a favoured venue for mainly classical concerts and tonight was a choral rendition of a piece called The Peacemakers by Karl Jenkins. The voices were excellent particularly the young soloist and also the flautist deserves a special mention. It was very well attended: I would say about 500 people and everyone enjoyed the evening. Proceeds were for the SOS Children's Village. I must say that the location was fantastic, so very atmospheric and wonderful acoustics. Before the concert we went into Cybele in the ruins and had wonderful Brandy Sours - a new favourite cocktail for me. So, if you get the chance to go to a concert up in Bellapais, I would highly recommend it. |
