An absolutely beautiful day here in Cyprus. Blue sky, gentle breeze, temperatures around 31C. It is such a pleasure to pull back the curtains and see the blue sea, the green mountains... often we can see Turkey but not today. Decided to do some of our jobs this morning because our friends Stuart and Fi arrive tonight for 10 days. I made up their bedroom and bathroom. They like to have the other bedroom with a balcony. The middle bedroom is actually bigger but that balcony is a draw! All the bedrooms have lovely views. Our's looks over the pool and mountains one way and down to the sea the other. There's looks down to the sea from the balcony and uphill to mountains from the side. Bob fitted a new Eco-Camel shower head in the main bathroom. We fitted these about 5 years ago after seeing them on Dragons Den. They use a venturi device to greatly increase the flow in situations where water pressure is not as high as the UK. We've found they work very well however one became faulty this summer so we have brought out a replacement with us and a spare for the store. Then Bob began tackling the small leak we have somewhere from the pool. It's not the pool structure but water is dripping down through the electrical ducting and into the pool room. A steady drip that occurs when the pool goes on overflow filtering. We suspect the pool lights so he donned some scuba gear and armed with waterproof putty went down to "gunge" the end of the ducting inside the lamp fitment holes. Did this so leaving it to set and then tomorrow we will see if it has dried up or whether it occurs again when we put the overflow on. It will be a process of elimination like all these swimming pool black arts! He also took the opportunity to fix the drain cover more securely to the bottom of the pool as it had come a bit loose. Just as he finished, Rick, our pool guy arrived. Always nice to see him and he does a great job of keeping the pool crystal clear and sparkly year round. We discussed the leaking conduit with him and he added a couple of ideas to the stack and also gave us some more minor maintenance jobs to add to the list. He also advises we completely flush the sand filter after the season to get rid of the dust and sun cream so we'll do that in October. That was enough jobs! Time for swimming, reading and general lazing around the pool. It was so hot we were really glad to get in the water and wallow around. Just so peaceful up here. Just birdsong.... the odd jingle of the goats down in the valley...... I fell asleep! Bob drove down the hill and picked up some extra tonics and also went to the little video store. It's just opposite Starlings supermarket. He has a complete Aladdin's cave in there and he will also make any for you that he doesn't have, including television box sets and series. All totally "grey" of course but we've noticed that here and in Turkey, there seems to be no licensing control at all. Large, respectable shops are selling pretty obvious fakes. We were picking Stuart and Fi up from the airport at 830 so it was time for what has become a bit of an airport run treat: fish and chips! Bob claims it as his just reward. There are some excellent fish and chip shops around us but tonight we went to Hillside in Alsancak. Excellent cod. I was good and didn't have the chips. About £4 for a large plateful. Picked Stuart and Fi up on time and back to the house where we sat out on the terrace for a few nightcaps and good catch ups. Its going to be a lovely 10 days with them. |
