Our last day with Stuart and Fi as they go home tomorrow. It's gone by so quickly, seems like yesterday we were picking them up! Shall miss their good company.... anyway, the weather gave them a good send off today. It was a cloudless blue sky with hot sun. The temperature is still in the 30s during the day and mid to high 20s at night. Perfect weather to do what we did which was nothing much around the pool! We were in and out of the water a lot today. Habibi the gardener came back and this time he took the tops off 3 of the trees. Bob loaned him our petrol chainsaw and he climbed the trees and sawed off the required branches. He did a really good job, left them all in a nice shape. I am so glad we found him. He swept up all the leaves and debris at the end. Next week he starts garden maintenance proper. This evening we went out to a restaurant called Kybele which is in the grounds of the ruins of Bellapais Abbey. I doubt there is a more beautiful sight than the Abbey spotlit at night, with all the lights of Kyrenia spread out below it. Really atmospheric and romantic. When we arrived there was a wedding in full swing in the ruins themselves. Looked like everyone was having a great time with live music and a lot of dancing. We got a great table in the restaurant looking right down over the hills and coastal plain. The food was very good. We all started with the meze - 8 cold plates accompanied by really delicious hot puffy pita bread from the ovens. We could see them cooking it. The pita was huge, more like an Indian roti. Then I had grilled lamb chops, Bob had lamb shank, Stuart had mixed kebab and Fiona had shevtaki kebab. Very good portions and excellent meat. It was served with large bowls of chips,, vegetables and rice. Afterwards we had coffees. The meal for 4 of us including wine, beer and water was £63. A great value considering the glamour of the surroundings and the food quality. Its a popular spot for celebrations and there were plenty of people up there doing just that. A most romantic place. |
